Living in Burley

Burley suits you if you want a calmer street and more house for the money, still close to campus. It suits you less if you want to live in the middle of the student scene.

Burley is the neighbour to Hyde Park and Headingley, a little further out and, as a rule, a little easier on the budget, so the money goes further on a house with a proper kitchen and a garden. It is a genuine mix of students, young professionals and local families, which keeps the streets quieter than the heart of Hyde Park.

The housing is classic west Leeds stock: Victorian terraces that make good shared houses for groups of three, four, five or more.

Kirkstall Road, the A65, anchors the south of the area, with the Cardigan Fields leisure complex, and Cardigan Road links Burley up towards Headingley. Burley Park itself, a Victorian park, has community gardens, tennis and basketball courts, an outdoor gym and a cricket pitch.
